Oakridge was recently recognized at the September 14th City Council meeting by the City of Garland for awards it received in 2019 and 2020. The details are below.
In 2019, the Oakridge Neighborhood was honored by the City of Garland with 2 awards: 2019 Garland Newsletter of the Year and 2019 Garland Neighborhood of the Year. For more details, visit our website post on the awards in 2019. We also printed information in the December 2019 issue of the newsletter. The City of Garland went on to submit Oakridge for similar awards at the national level with NUSA (Neighborhoods, USA).
In May 2020, winners and finalists of the NUSA Neighborhood Awards were announced. In the “Social Revitalization/Neighborliness” category Oakridge was recognized as a finalist for our annual holiday meals to the fire stations. In the “Print Format Newsletter” category Oakridge was recognized as a finalist for Oakridge News (our newsletter). We printed this information in the July 2020 issue of the newsletter.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, formal recognition from the City of Garland for these awards was delayed until 2021.
In 2021, at the September 14th City Council Meeting, Garland Mayor Scott LeMay officially presented a document of Special Recognition to Oakridge for the awards they had received.
